Make Moves and Desk Changes Easier to Support

A few desk moves can touch more technology than expected.

A few desk moves can touch more technology than expected. A public records team may relocate computers, phones, printers, and document scanners while sharing the same office throughout the work.

Create a destination list

List what is moving, where it is going, and which service each item needs at the destination. Confirm the new room and outlet identifiers before assigning work. Ask whether shared devices must remain available while individual desks move. Mark items that need configuration or specialist handling so the field team can arrange the right people instead of discovering those needs during the move.

Close each move with a user check

Give staff a short set of tasks to verify at the new location, such as signing in, receiving a call, or sending a test page. Record exceptions and update asset locations while the change is fresh. Remove temporary labels once final identifiers are confirmed. The move is not fully documented if the support system still sends a technician to the old desk.

Practical takeaway

A destination-based checklist connects the physical move with the services people need when they sit down. Keep it small enough to use at every desk.
