Separate Internet Provider Work from Building Readiness

An ordered internet connection does not answer every question about getting service into a building.

An ordered internet connection does not answer every question about getting service into a building. For a satellite office, provider work and site preparation may involve different organizations, different appointments, and different definitions of completion.

Locate the handoff

Ask the provider to identify the planned delivery point and the information needed before the visit. Have the building team confirm access, available space, and the pathway from that point to the intended equipment. Record assumptions that still need field verification. Avoid treating a provider order number as proof that all inside work is already included.

Coordinate the two schedules

List the tasks that must happen before installation, activation, and user testing. Assign an owner to each task and confirm how changes will be communicated. Keep a separate checkpoint for the agency's own service test after the connection is available. This allows the team to distinguish an unfinished building dependency from a provider activation issue during the final review. Confirm who will be present for that test and what task they will demonstrate.

Practical takeaway

Draw the service handoff on a simple plan and put names beside the work on each side. That small step can make the installation schedule much easier to manage.
